Trisha Yearwood has had a remarkably productive few years.

In a recent episode of Southern Living’s Biscuits & Jam podcast, the 61-year-old country singer reflected on her creative output in 2025 and since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I’ve had a really busy year. I was going to make another record and ended up making two,” Yearwood said, referring to her 2025 releases: the original album The Mirror and the holiday-themed Christmastime. “So it’s been kind of a crazy year, but it’s been good.”

These two albums came after the release of her fourth cookbook, Trisha’s Kitchen: Easy Comfort Food for Friends and Family, in 2021. Yearwood shared how the past few years have fueled her creativity.

“When you make your first album, you’re home a lot because no one knows who you are yet. And if you’re lucky enough to find success, things get really busy,” she said, recalling her debut album in 1991. “So making the next record is usually challenging.”

She added that writing her latest cookbook “felt like a gift at the time because it gave me something to focus on—a way to be creative.”

By 2022, Yearwood said she began exploring songwriting more seriously. “Maybe it came from a reevaluation of what I really wanted to do next and what’s important to me. Something just clicked, and I started writing a lot,” she explained, noting that she hadn’t done much writing previously due to a lack of confidence in herself.

Reflecting on this shift, she said, “I don’t know if it’s turning 60—or being 61 now—but I just flipped a switch. I decided I’m going to do what I want, decide what’s true for me, and write. I had no idea I was going to make an album; I just wanted to write.”

Yearwood, married to Garth Brooks, described the songwriting process as “kind of therapeutic,” giving her an outlet for personal expression.
