Riley Green celebrated a major milestone in Nashville this week, partnering with BMI and his label, Nashville Harbor Records & Entertainment, to honor back-to-back No. 1 hits for his self-written singles, “Worst Way” and “Don’t Mind If I Do.”

Ahead of the festivities, Green spoke with Country Now and other outlets about his solo-writing process, explaining that writing alone was never a deliberate choice—it just naturally happened.

“I never set out to be a solo writer,” he said. “Early in my career, I wrote all my songs alone. I was working construction and didn’t know any other songwriters. Later, I started co-writing, and that opened so many doors. But when an idea really speaks to me, it’s easy to write it by myself—often on my farm in Alabama with no one else around. It just happens when the idea feels right.”

The celebration focused on both chart-toppers, particularly “Worst Way,” which made Green the first country artist since Taylor Swift to achieve consecutive solo-written No. 1 singles on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. Green admitted he was initially uncertain about the song, noting he rarely writes straightforward love songs. Encouragement from friends and collaborators Erik Dylan and Nick Walsh convinced him to record it, and it has since become a highlight of his live shows.

Looking ahead, Green is working on new music, including his current single “Change My Mind,” which is climbing the country charts. While he acknowledged that release schedules aren’t entirely in his control, he teased that, if possible, he would have several songs ready for release and an album later this year.

Fans will also have opportunities to see him on the Cowboy As It Gets Tour throughout 2026. During the Nashville celebration, BMI’s Clay Bradley hosted the event, presenting Green with commemorative plaques. Nashville Harbor Records & Entertainment, along with BMLG’s Scott Borchetta, honored him with No. 1 plaques for “Don’t Mind If I Do” and “Worst Way,” as well as a Gold plaque for “Change My Mind,” currently his fastest-rising track on country radio. Additionally, “Worst Way” has achieved 3X-Platinum certification from the RIAA.
