Dolly Parton and Linda Perry’s Cover of 4 Non Blondes’ Classic “What’s Up?” to Feature on Parton’s Upcoming Rock Album “Rockstar,” Set for Release on November 17th.

Dolly Parton is gearing up to release her highly-anticipated rock album, “Rockstar,” featuring collaborations with iconic figures from the world of rock ‘n roll. The album is scheduled for release on November 17th.
In a delightful treat for fans, she has unveiled another glimpse of this project by sharing a touching and meaningful rendition of 4 Non Blondes’ smash hit, “What’s Up?” The song features the vocals of Linda Perry, the lead singer of the band. Accompanying the song’s release is a music video shot by Parton and Perry at an elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee.
Parton expressed her enthusiasm for this collaboration in a press statement, saying, “First of all, I love Linda Perry. Second of all, I love this song written by Linda. Third of all, I love being a part of this video to try to make people think about what’s going on in this world today. Shout out to the little children that helped with the video! If our children don’t make it, then what will? Again, I ask, ‘What’s Up?’ Enjoy.”
The music video for this latest single is set to premiere globally through MTV and CMT/CMT Music/CMT on Pluto TV (please check local listings for specific broadcast times), in addition to being showcased on the iconic Times Square billboard. The “What’s Up?” video will also be released on YouTube and all major streaming platforms starting at 10 a.m. ET on Saturday.
The original version of “What’s Up?” was penned by Linda Perry, who collaborated with Dolly Parton on this rendition. The video was directed by Steve Summers, and its production was handled by NOZ Entertainment.
The video footage for this thought-provoking piece was captured at Eakin Elementary School in downtown Nashville, even amidst sweltering weather conditions.
Linda Perry shared her excitement in a statement, saying, “How is one supposed to react when the greatest and most prolific songwriter in the world wants to cover a song YOU wrote? Her version of ‘What’s Up?’ is so good. Her spin on it made me feel like it was her song. No surprise there. Being on set making the video was a comfortable, easy experience. The vibe on set was chill, and Dolly and I got to catch up and laugh a lot. I could go on and on, obviously, I’m a fan!”
