Luke Bryan wasn’t happy when a fan tossed something at him mid-performance.

Speaking on The Bobby Bones Show on Aug. 12, the 49-year-old country singer recalled the moment during his July appearance at the North Dakota State Fair when a small ball struck him in the face. “It was like a little beach ball, almost like a hacky sack,” he explained. “I was singing, minding my own business, and suddenly it’s in my field of vision. I flinched, and it caught me.”

Bryan said what irritated him most was how exaggerated reports of the object’s size became. “My family and friends who aren’t on social media hear about it, and suddenly the story is I got nailed with a baseball,” he joked.

When asked for an official stance, Bryan didn’t hold back: “People who throw things at artists are idiots. It’s a sign of how far the moral code of how you’re supposed to act has fallen.” He noted that while the ball was harmless compared to other incidents, he’s had expensive phones thrown onstage by fans hoping he’d record a video for them. “That’s entitlement,” he said.

Bryan admitted that when the ball first hit, he “saw red” but quickly regained composure. Calling it mostly the antics of “kids being silly,” he said he only stayed angry for a few seconds before finishing “Country Girl (Shake It for Me).”

A fan’s TikTok captured the July 26 moment, showing Bryan briefly pausing, looking puzzled, and then resuming his performance. Days later, he told Taste of Country that it was the final song of a lively night when “one person just took it too far.” As he put it, “Every entertainer out there deals with it. You just hope you can figure out who did it.”
