“He said, ‘Nothing tops ‘Somewhere Over Laredo’!’”

Lainey Wilson Shares That ‘Somewhere Over Laredo’ Is Her Dad’s Favorite Song
Lainey Wilson recently celebrated her ninth No. 1 at country radio with “Somewhere Over Laredo,” a track that holds special significance for her because it’s her father’s favorite.
Speaking with Audacy’s Katie & Company, Wilson opened up about the song and the surprise of receiving GRAMMY nominations this year. She expressed excitement that the track is finally receiving recognition, especially knowing how much it means to her dad, Brian.
“I wasn’t expecting it at all this year, honestly, but it feels amazing,” Wilson said. “I’m so proud of ‘Somewhere Over Laredo,’ and I was hoping this song would get its flowers.”
She added that her father’s support made the achievement even more meaningful. “My daddy told me, ‘It don’t get no better than ‘Somewhere Over Laredo.’ You can write whatever.’ It’s his favorite song. I’m so proud of it, and I’m glad others in the industry recognize it too.”
The track has earned nominations for Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance at the 68th Annual GRAMMY Awards. Wilson is also nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “Trailblazer,” her collaboration with Reba McEntire and Miranda Lambert.
“Somewhere Over Laredo” pays homage to the classic “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and is part of Wilson’s Whirlwind Deluxe project. Reflecting on the song, she said, “It’s emotional, but it also transports you. It takes you back while also putting you in a different headspace. You get to feel a lot of emotions.”
Wilson closed out 2025 with two Las Vegas shows after a busy year that included hosting the CMA Awards, completing the North American leg of her Whirlwind World Tour, and performing at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. She isn’t slowing down yet—she’s slated to perform at Snoop Dogg’s Holiday Halftime Party on NFL Christmas Gameday, December 25, alongside Snoop Dogg and musical appearances from HUNTR/X: EJAE, AUDREY NUNA, and REI AMI.
Looking ahead to 2026, Wilson plans to take her live show to New Zealand, Australia, and other international destinations. She’s also set to make her acting debut in the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s Reminders of Him.
