Wilson attended the Monday premiere of the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary special.

Lainey Wilson has been increasingly visible on screen lately and says she’s eager to pursue more acting projects in the future.
Fans can currently see the country singer playing Amy, the assistant manager at a grocery store, in the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s Reminders of Him. She recently reflected on her experience while speaking with EXTRA at the premiere of the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary special.
“I loved it. Absolutely loved it. And I’m excited to do more,” Wilson shared. “Songwriting already lets you step into other people’s shoes and tell a story from their perspective, and that’s exactly how this felt for me.”
Beyond the film, which is now in theaters, Wilson is also gearing up for the April 22 release of Lainey Wilson: Keepin’ Country Cool, a Netflix documentary tracing her journey from a small-town Louisiana hopeful to a Grammy-winning star. The film offers a behind-the-scenes look at her life on tour and in the studio.
The documentary also revisits her early performing days, including when she impersonated Hannah Montana at local birthday parties.
“My eighth grade teacher needed someone to dress up as Hannah Montana for her daughter’s birthday,” Wilson recalled. “I bought the wig, brought my portable sound system, and dressed up as Hannah Montana. I did this for five years, from eighth grade to 12th grade, performing at three or four parties every weekend. I’d start as Lainey Wilson, then run behind a tree and change into my Hannah Montana outfit.”
Her connection to Hannah Montana came full circle in August 2024, when she was chosen to honor Miley Cyrus at the Disney Legends Awards by performing a cover of the Hannah Montana hit, “Best of Both Worlds.” Wilson said participating in the milestone celebration of the show felt surreal, given her long-standing connection to Cyrus’s pop star persona.
In addition to her acting and music projects, Wilson has numerous festival appearances scheduled this year, including a performance on the Mane Stage at Stagecoach. Reflecting on all her current opportunities, she admitted it’s hard to imagine what could top the year for her.
“So many chances have come my way that I never in a million years could have pictured, but there seems to be something exciting every single day,” she said. “Opportunities just keep coming, and I’m open to all of it.”
