On Wednesday, it was announced that Carrie Underwood will be replacing Katy Perry on the American Idol judges panel.

Are you ready for Kelly Clarkson’s latest Kellyoke performance of “Blown Away”?
On the episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show aired Thursday, July 25, Clarkson took the stage to deliver her version of Carrie Underwood’s popular song “Blown Away.”
Dressed in a striped button-down shirt, tan shorts, and sporting a red lip, the 42-year-old Clarkson passionately sang the lyrics of the track.
“Shatter every window ’til it’s all blown away/Every brick, every board, every slamming door blown away,” Clarkson performed. “‘Til there’s nothing left standing, nothing left of yesterday/Every tear-soaked whiskey memory blown away/Blown away (Blown away).”
Underwood, 41, released the track “Blown Away” in 2012, which was also the title of the album it appeared on. This song earned Underwood two Grammy Awards for Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance.
Interestingly, Clarkson’s cover of the song coincided with Underwood’s announcement of her return to American Idol on Good Morning America, just a week later. Clarkson, who won the inaugural season of the show, will now be joining Underwood as a judge, alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.
Good Morning America also shared a video on social media of Underwood’s Idol debut, capturing her journey from her hometown of Checotah, Oklahoma to her audition.
Underwood, who is the first former contestant to join the judges’ panel, reflected on the experience: “I remember being at home in our little house and seeing on TV that there were auditions in St. Louis. My mom said, ‘If you want to go, I’ll drive you.’ I went from nobody knowing my name to tens of millions of people watching the show.”
Reflecting on her numerous achievements since then, Underwood stated, “I’m proud of everything I was able to achieve on the show, and I’m equally proud of all that I’ve accomplished since.”
Season 23 of American Idol is set to premiere in spring 2025, with Ryan Seacrest returning as host. Seacrest, who announced Underwood’s win in 2005, expressed his enthusiasm about her new role on social media.
“It’s a full-circle moment to go from announcing you as the winner of American Idol 20 years ago to now welcoming you to the judge’s table,” Seacrest wrote on Instagram shortly after the news. “Welcome home, @carrieunderwood!”
