How Megan Moroney Draws Strength from Her Deeply Genuine Songwriting

“I believe it’s courageous, and it doesn’t make me feel any less strong,” the country artist shared with PEOPLE at the 2025 American Music Awards.

Megan Moroney is sticking to her honest approach for her next album, planning to share the highs, lows, and heartaches of her life through her music.

“I’m always writing. I’d say about 80% of my next album is already written,” the 27-year-old country singer told PEOPLE on the red carpet at the American Music Awards in Las Vegas on May 26.

“My process hasn’t changed—I just live my life and write about it. So this next album is shaping up the same way as my previous ones, drawing from my personal experiences.”

However, the new album is expected to have a lighter, more carefree, and upbeat vibe.

“There will still be those emotional ‘emo cowgirl’ songs—it wouldn’t be a Megan Moroney album without some heart-wrenching moments—but overall, it’s lighter and a lot of fun,” said the “Tennessee Orange” artist.

Moroney joked about the many songs she’s currently working on. “I’ve got so many tracks on my phone right now that I’m just…” she said with a playful, mischievous laugh. “I know my fans are going to freak out.”

Since releasing her debut album Lucky in 2023, Moroney has quickly risen to fame, largely thanks to her raw vulnerability in songwriting.

“There’s definitely strength in being painfully honest, even when it’s tough to open up,” she explained. “I feel like I have a fan base of young girls who really look up to me. If I can be the one to tell them it’s going to be okay, or that I once felt that way but don’t anymore—I think that’s brave, and it doesn’t make me feel any weaker.”
