“I may not be there in person, but I’m with you in spirit,” Parton shared in a video played during the unveiling of Dollywood’s new Night Flight Expedition ride.

Why Dolly Parton Skipped the Latest Dollywood Ride Reveal
When Dollywood unveiled its newest attraction — the Night Flight Expedition — on Wednesday, Sept. 17, one familiar face was noticeably absent. Dolly Parton, 79, appeared only by video, explaining that a health scare prevented her from attending in person.
“Hello Dollywood! It’s me,” she greeted fans. “I know I should be there with you, but I had a little problem.”
Parton revealed that a kidney stone had led to an infection, and her doctor advised against travel. “He told me I needed a few days to recover, so I couldn’t make the trip,” she said. “But I’m there with you in spirit. I was so excited for this day.”
Set to debut next year, the Night Flight Expedition promises a one-of-a-kind adventure. Dollywood teased on Instagram: “What happens in the Smoky Mountains after the sun goes down? Soar, plunge, climb and navigate the first ride of its kind in the world.”
Although she had to sit out the announcement, Parton’s 2025 has been far from quiet. A stage musical about her life premiered in Nashville in January and is expected to head to Broadway next year. She’s also preparing for a Las Vegas residency in December.
The “Jolene” legend has more music on the horizon, though she admitted that some creative projects are on pause as she grieves the loss of her husband of 60 years, Carl Thomas Dean, who passed away in March 2025.
“There are so many beautiful ideas I want to explore, but I know I can’t finish them right now,” she told Khloé Kardashian on the Khloé in Wonder Land podcast. “I can’t afford to let myself get too emotional at this moment. Still, if inspiration comes, I’ll keep writing.”
