The Grammy-winning country icon invited performers of all ages to audition for the opportunity to “embody the essence” of her life story in Dolly: An Original Musical.

The search for the perfect Dolly has begun!
On Thursday, December 5, Dolly Parton, along with her manager Danny Nozell and ATG Productions, announced a nationwide casting search for Dolly: An Original Musical. The Broadway show, formerly titled Hello, I’m Dolly, will showcase key moments from the legendary singer’s life and career.
In a video shared on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, Parton revealed the casting call and explained the audition process while clips from various stages of her illustrious career played in the background.
“I want to give you the chance to help me bring my story to Broadway — and maybe even play me!” Parton said, encouraging aspiring performers to audition for the role.
She continued, “This show is a celebration of my music, my life, and all the amazing people who’ve been with me along the way. We’re looking for talented performers who can capture the spirit of my journey, whether you’re an experienced theater professional or an undiscovered gem with that little special something.”
The musical is seeking “performers of all ages to portray Parton at various stages of her remarkable life,” according to a press release from the production.
To audition, candidates are asked to record a one-minute video of themselves singing their favorite Dolly Parton song and share it on social media with the hashtag #SearchForDolly. They must also complete the application form available on the musical’s website.
The application period will close on January 12, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. ET. Afterward, the casting team for Dolly: An Original Musical will review the submissions and invite promising candidates to New York City for an official audition process.
In an interview with PEOPLE in January, Dolly Parton shared that a Broadway musical about her life has been a long-time dream.
“Right now, I’m working on my life story as a musical, and going on Broadway to open my show there has been a major goal of mine for many, many years,” she explained. “That’s the one I want to make sure I accomplish while I’m still around and able to be involved.”
