The country artist and Hootie & the Blowfish frontman chuckled about the mishap that occurred in Charleston over the weekend.

Darius Rucker managed to find humor in the situation, even after taking a spill during a hometown headline performance.
On Saturday, October 12, Rucker played with Hootie & the Blowfish at the annual Riverfront Revival, an event he also curates. The show, which took place in Charleston, South Carolina, marked a homecoming after the band wrapped up their 43-city tour from May to September, finishing 2024 on a high note.
In footage recorded by fans, the 58-year-old frontman began singing the first verse of his aptly titled 2009 solo hit “Alright” when he seemingly stumbled over an onstage monitor and fell face-first. “I’m old as hell,” Rucker admitted with a laugh to the audience.
However, Rucker couldn’t help but laugh as he shared a chuckle with the audience, especially when touring keyboard player Lee Turner humorously pointed out the spot where he tripped. After finishing the song, Rucker addressed the incident, saying, “We’ve been doing this all summer. I hadn’t fallen once. But I busted my ass in my hometown.”
Last month, Rucker was sentenced to 11 months and 29 days of probation after pleading no contest to a charge of simple possession of a controlled substance resulting from a traffic stop in February 2023, according to WKRN. Upon completion of his probation, the musician’s record will be cleared, as reported by Penn Live.
He was arrested in February 2024 on two counts of simple possession/casual exchange of a controlled substance and one count of violating Tennessee’s vehicle registration law, as confirmed by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office to PEOPLE at that time.
“It sucks,” Rucker shared with PEOPLE in May. “For fifty-seven years, I’ve never been in a police car or jail, and now I get busted for that.” He reflected on the situation, saying, “I thought back to when I got pulled over by a police officer, and I had a bit of pot and maybe some mushrooms in the car, and he let me go. Then, a year later, I got a call from a friend who said, ‘I think I just saw an arrest warrant for you.’ It shocked me. I’m dealing with it through my lawyers, paying the consequences, and we’ll move on with our lives.”
