Country Artist Nate Smith Describes Rain-Soaked Festival Performance as the Greatest Moment of His Career

The singer’s headline performance at Dauphin’s Countryfest was disrupted after severe weather conditions, including a tornado warning and lightning, forced an interruption.

Nate Smith refused to let extreme weather ruin his headline performance at Dauphin’s Countryfest this weekend.

The country singer’s set at the Canadian festival was interrupted on Sunday, June 28, after only four songs when organizers paused the performance because of a tornado warning and lightning in the area.

After fans were allowed to return once the danger passed, Smith, 40, went back onstage and performed “Bulletproof,” “Fix What You Didn’t Break,” and a cover of Green Day’s “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.” However, the weather quickly became a concern again, forcing another interruption.

Smith recalled seeing lightning in the sky as heavy rain began falling while his team told him the performance had to stop. He said he struggled with the idea of leaving the stage after already stepping away once, especially with thousands of fans still eager to hear more music.

When the crowd began calling for “one more song,” Smith decided to stay connected with them. He rolled up his sleeves, picked up an acoustic guitar, and performed for the soaked but enthusiastic audience in a more personal and stripped-down moment.

The singer described the experience as one of the most memorable moments of his career, saying he felt closer to the audience than ever before.

Dauphin’s Countryfest, known as Canada’s longest-running country music festival, took place from June 25–28 and featured performances from artists including Jelly Roll, Tyler Hubbard, Cameron Whitcomb, and Brett Kissel.

During the weather delay, Smith posted a video on Instagram apologizing to fans and explaining that the situation was beyond his control. He told the crowd he wanted to return to the stage and continue the show as soon as possible.

Later, before going back out to perform, Smith shared another message saying he was excited to return and promised fans an even better show.

The performance comes after Smith previously opened up about overcoming personal struggles, including unhealthy habits, excessive drinking, and a difficult period with his mental health.
