The winner of ‘American Idol’ season four, Carrie Underwood, shared a throwback photo from her 2005 audition, just a day after the show crowned its newest Idol.

Carrie Underwood is nostalgically reminiscing about her time on American Idol. On Monday, May 20th, the season four winner, 41, shared a throwback photo from her audition day on Instagram with the caption, “⭐️REFLECTION of the week: contestant number #14887 received her golden ticket to Hollywood!”
“I can’t believe it has been almost 20 years since auditioning for @AmericanIdol! #ReflectionOfTheWeek,” the country singer added.
The official American Idol Instagram page also praised Underwood’s post, commenting, “We 💙 you so much! 😍.”
Underwood’s post coincides closely with American Idol’s crowning of its season 22 winner, Abi Carter, just a day prior. Reflecting on the emotional moment with PEOPLE after the finale show, the 21-year-old singer expressed, “I can’t even express how amazing that was.”
Underwood can similarly relate to the surreal feeling of being American Idol royalty. In 2005, she secured her golden ticket to stardom by singing Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” to original judges Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, and Simon Cowell. Despite labeling Cowell as “scary” during her audition, Underwood’s vocals impressed the trio, ultimately leading her to victory over finalist Bo Bice in her season.
Underwood made a return to American Idol in 2022, this time serving as a mentor for the season 20 semifinals.
Today, the Play On artist and mother of two is preparing for a return to Las Vegas for her extended Reflection residency at the Resorts World Theatre. Originally launched in late 2021, she has added more dates for 2023 and even more for this year, scheduled from May 22 to June 1, Aug. 14-24, and Oct. 16-26.
In the television realm, ABC recently renewed American Idol for its 23rd season overall, marking its eighth season since transitioning from Fox to ABC. Following the recent finale, judge Katy Perry bid farewell to the show, concluding her seven-season run with a tearful farewell.
