Planning a tour can be a challenging experience for Carrie Underwood.

Speaking to reporters in Nashville, as reported by Taste of Country, the 43-year-old country star opened up about what she considers the most difficult part of touring and why it can be emotionally draining.

“The hardest part of touring is deciding which songs you’re not going to perform,” Underwood admitted.

The Grammy winner, who has more than a dozen No. 1 hits on the U.S. country charts, explained the challenge of balancing new material with fan favorites. “Finding that perfect mix of new songs and the ones people expect is tough,” she said. “I always get a little sad thinking, ‘Aw, we’re not going to do that one.’”

She also joked about the physical toll of performing. “I can’t be on stage for four hours singing my songs,” she said. “After about two hours, I’m like, ‘Eww,’ and, ‘I’m hurtin’.’”

Underwood concluded her Reflection residency at Resorts World Las Vegas last year after more than 70 shows. Her last major tour, promoting her Denim & Rhinestones album, ran from 2022 to 2023 and typically featured over 20 songs, including hits like “Before He Cheats,” “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” and “Cowboy Casanova.”

In November 2025, she reflected on the 20th anniversary of “Before He Cheats” during a conversation with PEOPLE. She recalled early doubts about recording the song, wondering if it was too bold compared to her “sweet farm girl” image on American Idol.

“But everyone loved it, and it worked,” she said. The track went on to top the U.S. Hot Country Songs chart and reach No. 8 on the all-genres Billboard Hot 100. Two decades later, Underwood said it’s still a thrill to see the song performed live.
