Bailey Zimmerman Deliberately Followed His Gut While Creating His Second Album, Different Night Same Rodeo

“I want to create songs that my true fans will connect with and genuinely enjoy.”

Bailey Zimmerman’s much-anticipated second album, Different Night Same Rodeo, has officially been released through Atlantic Records and Warner Music Nashville. Before unveiling the 18-track project to the public, the rising country artist shared that his approach this time wasn’t about chasing chart positions — it was about crafting a collection of songs that both he and his fans could take pride in.

Zimmerman acknowledged that, as someone still in the early stages of his career, there’s always pressure to deliver quality music and prove himself. Instead of letting that pressure shape the album, he chose to focus on authenticity.

“My biggest priority was to make an album I could be genuinely proud of,” Zimmerman told Apple Music’s Kelleigh Bannen. “No matter how it performs, I believe our role as artists is to create music that feels true to us and resonates with our fans. After that, however it’s received is out of our hands.”

Although he admits the weight of expectations never truly goes away, Zimmerman has learned to use it as motivation rather than letting it overwhelm him. “I think I’ll always have something to prove — through writing new songs, collaborating with other artists, releasing albums, and touring,” he explained. “That’s why I focus on making music I love, the kind that my real fans will connect with and relate to. That’s all I can control.”

Across the 18 tracks, the Illinois native offers a deeper, more vulnerable side of himself while maintaining the rock-infused country style fans know him for. The stories go further beneath the surface, capturing life’s highs and lows. Even the title has personal meaning — it was inspired by his father’s frequent saying, “Same sh**, different day,” which Zimmerman adapted into a phrase that reflects his journey as an artist.

Zimmerman revealed that he had initially planned to release the album last year, but ultimately decided to delay it because it didn’t yet meet his own standards. “I almost put it out in 2024, but it didn’t feel ready,” he said. “If it’s not good enough for me, I’m not going to release it. I don’t want to regret putting something out too soon.”

This extra time allowed him to add new songs that were still being written, ultimately making the finished project stronger. “Waiting made all the difference,” he reflected. “Now it’s a much better album than it would have been last year, and I’m incredibly proud of it.”

Produced by longtime collaborator Austin Shawn, the record features notable tracks including “Backup Plan” with Luke Combs, the platinum-certified Top 10 single “Holy Smokes,” and recent releases like “New To Country,” “Hell or High Water,” “Holding On,” “Comin’ In Cold,” “Ashes” with Diplo, and “Chevy Silverado.”

Different Night Same Rodeo follows Zimmerman’s debut album, Religiously. The Album., which made history as the highest streaming debut for a country album and the largest all-genre streaming debut since 2021.
