She recalled on the Tuesday, April 21 episode of SiriusXM’s Life with John Mayer that when she was 15, she received a ticket for driving 75 in a 45 zone.

At 15, Lainey Wilson says she was already “living fast.”
During an appearance on SiriusXM’s Life with John Mayer on Tuesday, April 21, the country singer shared that she once ended up in front of a judge after a speeding incident—but was given an unusual alternative to a ticket.
Wilson, 33, told John Mayer that she had been clocked driving 75 mph in a 45 mph zone. Instead of simply being fined, she said she got a break thanks to a personal connection.
According to Wilson, the judge happened to be her neighbor and decided to make her write a song about speeding rather than just punish her with a citation. She even joked that she performed part of it, singing, “Going 75 in a 45, da da da.”
She has also spoken before about her unconventional teenage years, including working as a Hannah Montana impersonator. In a recent PEOPLE cover story, Wilson reflected on that experience and how it coincided with Miley Cyrus’ Hannah Montana 20th anniversary celebrations and her own Netflix documentary Lainey Wilson: Keepin’ Country Cool.
Wilson said the timing felt meaningful, noting that while she didn’t have the glamorous lifestyle associated with the Disney character, she performed wherever she could—at birthday parties and small events—using a portable setup.
She added that Cyrus has been supportive and amused by her past impersonations, and that the experience helped push her toward pursuing music seriously on her own terms, even before she was old enough to drive.
