The country singer’s self-titled second studio album has officially been released and is now available across all major music platforms.

Ashley Cooke is embracing vulnerability with the release of her self-titled second album.

The country singer released ashley cooke on Aug. 14, turning a deeply personal chapter of her life into a 15-track collection. Much of the album centers on a past relationship, making the project an especially revealing look at what she experienced during that period.

Cooke explained that she wrote several of the songs with her former boyfriend, Johnny Clawson, who also contributed background vocals throughout the entire album. Although their relationship has since ended, his involvement remains part of the project’s story.

The 29-year-old singer said the breakup was difficult and not necessarily peaceful, leaving her with complicated emotions while creating the record. Now that she has moved forward, however, she views the album differently. Rather than simply being a painful reminder of the past, she sees it as a musical snapshot of what the relationship meant to her and everything they experienced together.

According to Cooke, the album follows her journey from friendship and early chemistry through the relationship and ultimately its ending. While her former romance is a recurring theme, she chose to give the record her own name because the songs ultimately reflect her personal perspective and the way she processed those experiences.

Cooke admitted that she initially hesitated to release such intimate material because she was still recovering from the breakup when she made the decision. She was also trying to navigate the complicated emotions of having been deeply in love with someone who had also hurt her.

With time, she has become more comfortable with the decision. Although she and Clawson have moved on separately and no longer communicate, Cooke believes the album can serve a greater purpose by showing listeners that she is willing to be open about difficult experiences.

Musically, ashley cooke was created to capture the emotional atmosphere of a romantic comedy. Cooke has cited How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days as one of her favorite films and wanted the album to carry a similar mix of romance, emotion and storytelling.

The project also features her friend JP Saxe on the song “man behind the glass.” Cooke said the two became closer while working on the album, with Saxe encouraging her to be straightforward about her experiences.

Cooke has also praised artists such as Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and her close friend Megan Moroney for their willingness to tell personal stories and express their truths through their music. That same approach became an important part of Cooke’s own creative process on her new album.
