“Willie Nelson Reveals He No Longer Smokes Marijuana, Chooses Alternative Method”

“In April, the 92-year-old country music icon debuted his album Oh What a Beautiful World.”

It might finally be possible to outsmoke Willie Nelson.

In a Forbes interview published on June 7, the country music legend opened up about his new cannabis-infused beverage, Willie’s Remedy, and shared that he’s no longer smoking marijuana.

When asked how he manages to stay youthful while touring, the 92-year-old icon admitted, “I can’t smoke anymore.” Nelson, who owns a cannabis business, explained, “My lungs have already told me to stop, so these days I mostly stick to edibles.”

The On the Road Again singer also discussed the significance of having a THC-based drink. THC, the psychoactive component in cannabis responsible for its euphoric effects, differs from CBD, which doesn’t produce a high.

“I think it’s a good thing — people seem to like it, from what I’ve seen and heard. It’s becoming pretty popular,” Nelson noted. Back in 2019, he announced he had quit smoking cigarettes. However, his publicist later clarified that while Nelson no longer smokes in the traditional sense, he still occasionally consumes cannabis flower in other ways and hasn’t increased or decreased his weed intake.

Willie Nelson has always been open about his adventures with marijuana. In a February 2023 interview with PEOPLE, he shared a memorable story about lighting up with rapper Snoop Dogg in Amsterdam. “I love Snoop,” Nelson said. “We’ve been close friends for a long time. It was a blast just spending time together and doing our thing.”

According to Nelson, the two enjoyed a generous amount of cannabis during their time together. “I was in Amsterdam and gave him a call—told him to come over so we could have some fun,” he recalled. “And he did. We hit all the popular spots—The Bulldog, Gray Area—all the classics.” Interestingly, Snoop even admitted he thought Nelson would outsmoke him.

In another famous moment from Nelson’s past, former President Jimmy Carter once revealed that Nelson smoked marijuana on the roof of the White House with one of Carter’s sons.

During the same Forbes interview, Nelson also talked about his newest album, Oh What a Beautiful World, which was released on April 25. He emphasized the value of spreading optimism: “I think it’s time we focus on bringing joy to people, highlighting the good, and staying positive.”

When asked what brings him joy at 92, Nelson answered simply: music. “I love performing,” he said. “I love seeing people come together and let go of everything else through music. There’s a powerful and positive energy exchange that happens.”

He added, “We don’t care about your politics or the color of your skin—if you love music, you’re welcome.”
