Thomas Rhett Talks New Music and Says His Kids Are Obsessed With Life on the Tour Bus Ahead of Upcoming Tour

The country music artist is set to launch his Soundtrack to Life summer tour on July 9.

Thomas Rhett has often joked that naming his tours hasn’t always been his strongest skill. In previous years, the country singer named concert runs after his own songs, only for fans to notice that those tracks didn’t always appear on the setlist—turning the pattern into a lighthearted running joke among him and his band.

This time, as he prepares to hit the road on July 9 for a tour that will run through October, he’s opted for a more straightforward title: the Soundtrack to Life Tour. He says the name better reflects how listeners connect with his music.

Speaking to PEOPLE, Thomas Rhett, 36, explained that many fans tell him they’ve grown up alongside his songs, with some saying they first heard his music when they were very young. He reflected that both he and his audience have moved through major life milestones together, from early adulthood into marriage and parenthood.

His family will be part of the journey as well. He and his wife Lauren Akins, whom he married in 2012, share five children: daughters Willa Gray, Ada James, Lennon Love, and Lillie Carolina, as well as their son Brave Elijah, who was born in February.

The singer says his older daughters are especially excited about life on the road and enjoy the experience of touring, including sleeping on the tour bus.

While he is looking forward to the tour, Rhett admits that balancing time away from home remains challenging, especially when performances overlap with his children’s school and sports activities. Still, he views his career as an opportunity to set an example for his kids, emphasizing gratitude and passion for his work rather than seeing it as a burden.

He also shared that his children are only beginning to understand what he does for a living, often simplifying it to “just singing” and “making words rhyme” when describing his job to others.

Alongside touring, Rhett is currently working on a new album—the follow-up to his 2024 release About a Woman. He says the project is shaping up to be his favorite work so far.
