By now, you’re likely familiar with the narrative surrounding Taylor Swift’s decision to re-record and release her earlier albums. If you were to inquire about the origins of this idea, Swift would likely attribute it to Kelly Clarkson.
However, if you were to ask Clarkson, she would modestly assert that Swift would have pursued this path independently and that she merely didn’t influence the idea.
In reality, Clarkson expressed this suggestion to Swift via a tweet in 2019, stating:
“@taylorswift13 just a thought, U should go in & re-record all the songs that U donβt own the masters on exactly how U did them but put brand new art & some kind of incentive so fans will no longer buy the old versions.”

In any case, Swift hasn’t forgotten the encouragement. In a recent episode of Clarkson’s television talk show, “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” the pop star disclosed that with each new release of a Taylor’s Version album β the re-recorded versions owned by Swift β the global sensation sends Clarkson a thoughtful gift or flowers.
Presumably, it serves as a sort of thank-you note and a genuinely sweet gesture. Swift is renowned for sending considerate gifts to fellow artists and influencers.
In 2021, pop star Olivia Rodrigo expressed her gratitude for a gift Swift sent her:
“She is absolutely the kindest individual in the whole world. Actually, last night, literally like 12 hours ago, I got a package from her with this handwritten note. And she gave me this ring because she said she wore one just like it when she wrote Red, and she wanted me to have one like it and all of this amazing stuff, she’s hand-wrapped these gifts.”
The intriguing question in all of this is how Swift manages to find the time to personally handwrite notes and wrap gifts for all these individuals. While it’s known that she has a substantial team supporting her, she continues to engage in these thoughtful gestures.
Perhaps this commitment to personal touches contributes to why she remains one of the most beloved artists across generations. Swift’s most recent re-released album was “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” released on October 27, 2023. Upcoming are re-recordings of “Reputation” and her self-titled debut album.
