Concertgoer Jessica Rosario told PEOPLE, “As he began singing, he noticed a man who allegedly hit a woman and immediately halted the show to have him removed by security.”

Scotty McCreery interrupted his concert to address an issue involving a concertgoer. During his performance at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo, Colorado, on Saturday, August 24, McCreery stopped singing upon noticing a man allegedly assaulting a woman in the audience.

Concertgoer Jessica Rosario shared a video showing McCreery pausing his “It Matters To Her” performance. Rosario told PEOPLE, “In the video, Scotty is discussing his wife Gabi’s favorite song. As he started to sing, he saw a man who allegedly hit a woman and stopped the show to have him removed by security.”

A representative for McCreery has chosen not to comment on the incident.

In the video, McCreery is heard saying, “Right here, that’s a lady you just hit, sir,” while pointing to someone in the audience. He continued, “Absolutely not, you just hit the lady. Police? Security? Is she OK? Get the heck out of here.”

He expressed his disbelief, saying, “On God’s green earth. At a Scotty McCreery show? What are you doing?” He instructed the crowd to inform the police about the incident, adding, “That’s absolutely unacceptable.”

After ensuring the situation was being handled, McCreery asked security, “We got ‘em? We good down there?” and concluded with, “Whoever you are, that’s the definition of a coward, hitting a lady. Get the heck out of here.” He then checked in with the audience before resuming his performance.

Attendees near the front of the crowd pointed out the person who was later escorted from the venue. The identities of the man and woman involved, as well as whether the man was arrested, have not been publicly disclosed.

Olga Robak, director of communications with The Colorado Department of Agriculture, confirmed the incident to PEOPLE, stating, “We can confirm that an incident occurred at the Scotty McCreery concert where a man assaulted a woman, and the performer stopped the show.”

Robak added that Colorado State Fair security helped manage the situation, but noted, “This incident is still under investigation, and we cannot provide further comments at this time.”
