“We extend our deepest condolences to McCreery and his family during this difficult time.”

Scotty McCreery Mourns the Loss of Both Grandmothers on the Same Day
Country singer Scotty McCreery and his family are facing an overwhelming loss after both of his grandmothers passed away within hours of each other on Wednesday, July 9.
The heartbreaking news was first revealed by Scotty’s mother, Judy McCreery, through a touching message on her public Facebook page. In the post, Judy shared the emotional weight of losing her mother, Janet Hunter Cooke, and her mother-in-law, Paquita McCreery, on the same day — a moment she described as deeply painful and unimaginable.
“This is a message I prayed I wouldn’t have to write for many years,” Judy began. “My sweet mom, 85, passed away yesterday at WakeMed shortly after 1 p.m. She had been fighting off norovirus and the flu, which led to serious dehydration and eventually pneumonia. My heart is shattered, but I know it was her time.”
Scotty Shares His Grief
Shortly after his mother’s announcement, Scotty McCreery shared his own heartfelt tribute on social media, revealing the profound sadness he felt losing both of his grandmothers in such a short span of time.
“My heart is completely broken,” he wrote. “Yesterday, both my Grandma Janet and Grandma Paquita passed away. I’m still in disbelief as I write this, but I’m holding on to all the wonderful memories we shared.”
He went on to describe the countless special moments he experienced with each of them — from time spent on the farm in Elizabeth City and visits to the Outer Banks with Grandma Janet, to cherished memories around the pool in Pinehurst and trips to Puerto Rico with Grandma Paquita.
“Both of them showed me what true love looks like,” Scotty added. “I’ll miss them so much. If you could keep my family in your prayers, it would mean a lot to us.”
