Reba McEntire had little prior exposure to gummies, mentioning that she may have only tried them once before unintentionally consuming one alongside her mother.

McEntire recently recounted an incident where she unknowingly ingested a 25mg gummy while caring for her late mother, Jacqueline.

Gummies do not play a regular role in Reba McEntire’s life. The 69-year-old Queen of Country shared a humorous tale on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon about accidentally consuming a 25mg gummy while caring for her late mother, Jacqueline. During the conversation, she admitted to having minimal experience with psychoactive treats, stating, “Maybe one time, you know, like two milligrams or something like that.”

The “Fancy” singer accidentally overindulged in a gummy while caring for her mother, Jacqueline, in January 2020, just two months before Jacqueline passed away from bladder cancer in March. During this time, Reba traveled to Oklahoma to spend time with her mother and allow her siblings—Alice, Pake, and Susie—to take a break from caregiving. Alice had instructed Reba to give Jacqueline a full gummy before bedtime, but Reba felt “uncomfortable” with that idea.

“So, when we started getting ready for bed, I said, ‘Mama, let’s get ahead of this pain. I’m gonna give you half of this,'” she recounted. Jacqueline asked, “Well, what do I do with it?” and Reba suggested, “Put it in between your cheek and your gum like a dip of Skoal or something.” Jacqueline followed her advice, and soon after, she fell asleep.

Reba reflected, “I thought, ‘Well, shoot. Mama’s taking it. I need to see what she’s experiencing.’” After taking the other half of the gummy herself, she also “went to sleep.” However, in the middle of the night, Jacqueline woke up to use the bathroom, and Reba quickly realized the gummy’s effects on her own mental state.

“I threw back the covers — and that’s about as far as I got. And I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, I gotta help her. I’m gonna look like a wimp if I don’t,'” Reba recounted. “So, I figured I’m either gonna crawl over the bed or I’m gonna walk around.”

The star of Happy’s Place managed to walk over to Jacqueline, who requested a glass of ice water, but the kitchen felt “a long way away.” Reba found herself humorously imagining a grim news headline: “Reba McEntire found in her mother’s kitchen, ice all around.”

“So, I just turned back to Mom and said, ‘Here you go.’ She took a sip and replied, ‘Ugh, where’s the ice?’ I told her, ‘We’re out.’ She asked, ‘We’re out of ice?’ and I confirmed, ‘Yeah,’” Reba recounted.

After getting Jacqueline settled back in bed, the Voice coach “laid down” and insisted she saw “weeds and flowers growing out of my head.”
