The 34-year-old singer-songwriter performed her 2020 protest anthem “Better Than We Found It” in Chicago to support Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign.

Maren Morris appeared at the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago on August 21 to support Vice President Kamala Harris. She performed her 2020 song, “Better Than We Found It,” a protest anthem released in response to George Floyd’s murder and in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
During the performance, Morris sang lines that highlighted a contrast between contemporary Democratic and Republican platforms, including:
“When lines of tomorrow are drawn / Can I live with the side that I chose to be on? / Will we sit on our hands, do nothing about it? / Or will we leave this world better than we found it? / America, America, divided we fall / America, America, God save us all / From ourselves and the Hell that we’ve built for our kids / America, America, we’re better than this.”
Throughout her career, Maren Morris, 34, has championed inclusivity within the country music genre. She shared with PEOPLE in 2022, “I didn’t start making music to become an activist. I think it was a byproduct of just seeing the inequality in the genre I happened to come up in. Once you become aware of it, you can’t really shut your eyes again.”
Maren Morris gained attention for creating shirts that read “Lunatic Country Music Person” after Tucker Carlson labeled her with that term during a 2022 segment of his show. The proceeds from these shirts were donated to support trans rights groups.
