Luke Grimes’ venture into the music industry is gaining significant traction. The former actor, now pursuing a musical path, commenced an eight-date tour this week, preceded by an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
During the spotlight moment, Grimes showcased his musical talent with a rendition of his song “Burn.” Adorned in denim and boots, he delivered a poignant performance, maintaining simplicity as he strummed his guitar, accompanied by the band (view the performance below). Occasionally, his voice exuded passion, infusing a raw, guttural quality into the lyrics.
The narrative of “Burn” revolves around a man who experiences betrayal from a fleeting lover. Despite being aware of the inevitable heartbreak, the narrator willingly allows himself to be used, cherishing each moment with her. He pleads that when she eventually departs, she does so by setting him ablaze, embracing the metaphorical burning.
This track is a part of Grimes’ debut EP, “Pain Pills or Pews,” where he penned “Burn” along with five other songs. Given the limited total of eight songs on the EP, it’s likely that he will perform the entire collection during his shows.
This venture marks Grimes’ initiation into the country music scene. Despite his extensive acting career, music has been a passion since childhood. Both aspirations coexisted as dreams, but acting took the forefront initially.
Reflecting on his journey, Grimes shares with Jimmy Kimmel, “I’ve been playing music since I was a kid. You know, both of the dreams were sort of simultaneous and acting just sort of paid the bills.” Seizing an opportunity, he decided to pursue his musical passion, acknowledging the uncertainty and potential judgment but choosing to take the chance.
For those interested, “Pain Pills or Pews” is currently available. Grimes will continue his tour across the country, concluding in Boston on December 16.
