During his speech at Nicole Kidman’s AFI tribute on April 27, Keith Urban openly discussed his feelings about his wife, mentioning that he was initially nervous to contact her after they first met. He fondly referred to her as “a real-life princess” during the event.

Keith Urban emphasized his enduring love for Nicole Kidman during his heartfelt speech at the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala on April 27. He candidly shared that after they first met in January 2005, he was too nervous to make a move because Kidman had “such a truly otherworldly aura about her,” likening the experience to feeling like he had “snuck into the royal ball.” This sentiment reflects the depth of admiration he holds for his wife.

During his speech at the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala, Keith Urban shared charming anecdotes about his early interactions with Nicole Kidman. He described feeling like he was meeting a real-life princess when they first met, and he confessed to being nervous about calling her after getting her phone number on a tiny piece of paper. Urban kept her number in his pocket for a week before summoning the courage to make the call.

Reflecting on their conversation, Urban was relieved to find that Kidman, whom he initially perceived as a mystic creature, was actually a down-to-earth Australian girl from the Sydney suburbs. Despite her international background, he realized she was “utterly Aussie through and through.”

The AFI tribute was a memorable event, attended by the couple’s teenage daughters for the first time. The evening featured touching speeches from celebrity friends like Reese Witherspoon, Naomi Watts, and Zac Efron, highlighting Kidman’s remarkable career and impact in Hollywood.

During his speech at the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala, Keith Urban expressed deep admiration for Nicole Kidman’s talent, acknowledging her stature as one of the greats in Hollywood. He playfully noted that his praise wasn’t merely that of a biased husband, echoing Russell Crowe’s sentiments about her exceptional abilities.

Urban then shifted to a more personal note, reflecting on the challenging times early in their marriage. He openly discussed his struggle with substance abuse, revealing that just four months into their marriage in June 2006, his addictions had nearly destroyed their relationship. Urban found himself in rehab at the Betty Ford Center for three months, uncertain about the future of their marriage.

Despite these difficulties, Urban highlighted Kidman’s unwavering love and support during this tumultuous period, underscoring her remarkable heart and spirit beyond her professional achievements. This candid revelation underscored the depth of their bond and Kidman’s strength as a partner during times of adversity.

Nicole Kidman was moved to tears as she listened to Keith Urban’s heartfelt words from the audience at the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala. She was surrounded by her Big Little Lies co-stars Meryl Streep and Reese Witherspoon, as well as Morgan Freeman, who collaborated with her on the film “Lioness.” The emotional impact of Urban’s tribute was evident as Kidman’s response reflected the depth of their shared experiences and enduring bond.

Keith Urban’s words at the AFI tribute emphasized the power of love in action, pointing to Nicole Kidman’s resilience and unwavering support during challenging times. Urban credited Kidman for pushing through negativity, including her own doubts, and choosing love, which ultimately sustained their relationship for 18 years and counting.

Following Urban’s time in rehab, he released a poignant song titled “Got It Right This Time,” dedicated to Kidman. The lyrics express Urban’s profound gratitude and admiration for Kidman’s belief in him, acknowledging how she transformed his life for the better. This heartfelt tribute through music further underscores the depth of their connection and Urban’s appreciation for Kidman’s role in his personal growth.
