Urban expressed his admiration for Cyrus’ voice during a radio interview in Sydney, Australia, describing it as sounding like an “ashtray” but adding, “I love that voice.”

Keith Urban recently shared his thoughts on Miley Cyrus’ singing during an episode of Nova 96.9’s Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie in Sydney, Australia. The 56-year-old singer-songwriter revealed he has “always loved Miley” but gave an unconventional compliment, saying, “I love that voice, man, that voice. She sounds like an ashtray. And I mean that as a compliment. She sounds like the carpet at the RSL!”
Urban’s comments came after he performed a rendition of her song “Flowers” on the show. He also expressed his views on the authenticity of some country artists in Nashville, stating, “It’s a funny thing because you still need the support of the system in Nashville, and if you go about it the right way, like Post did, you’ll see the love.”
Urban’s comments about Miley Cyrus, 31, follow his praise for Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande. In April, after announcing his latest Las Vegas residency, Urban expressed his admiration for Swift’s songwriting, describing it as “extraordinary” and noting that her album The Tortured Poets Department was further proof of her exceptional talent.
Urban also shared his enthusiasm for Ariana Grande’s March 2024 song “We Can’t Be Friends,” saying, “I don’t know what is going on with that song, but I cannot stop playing it. It’s like audible heroin. Literally, I have to have another hit.” He added, “I play that thing over and over and over.”
