Jelly Roll is stepping into a new role, this time as a judge on Netflix’s reboot of Star Search. The streaming service confirmed that he will join actress Sarah Michelle Gellar and model, author, and TV personality Chrissy Teigen on the revamped edition of the classic competition.
The original Star Search, which aired from 1983 to 1995, helped launch the careers of several future stars, including Dave Chappelle, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, Britney Spears, and Adam Sandler.
The new version of the show will premiere on Netflix on January 20 in a live, interactive format, allowing viewers to vote in real time—an unprecedented feature for the streaming platform.
Anthony Anderson will host the reboot, aiming to preserve the essence of the original while adding a modern, real-time twist. Each week, audiences will see a mix of performers—including musicians, dancers, comedians, and children’s acts—compete live.

Jelly Roll, Gellar, and Teigen will help decide which performers advance, but ultimately, the audience controls the voting. Every performance, reveal, and elimination will happen instantly as Anderson guides viewers through the high-stakes, career-making moments.

A new promotional video has been released ahead of the show’s premiere, giving fans a closer look at the judges and what each will bring to the competition.
