Ballerini explained that the visuals aim to convey the emotions, contrasts, sentiments, and scenery associated with her new record.

Kelsea Ballerini is re-entering the scene, thanks in part to her boyfriend, Chase Stokes.

Stokes, 32, who ignited dating rumors with the 31-year-old country star in January 2023, appears in Ballerini’s music video for “First Rodeo,” which she unveiled on Wednesday, October 16, ahead of her upcoming album Patterns set to release on October 25.

The poignant video opens with Ballerini lying on the beach in a light pink satin dress. As she gazes out at the water, she begins to sing the first verse of the song, which she describes as a message about giving love another opportunity.

As Ballerini reaches the chorus of the song in the music video, she runs into Stokes’ arms for a heartfelt, extended hug.

The video features scenes of her riding a carousel, interspersed with moments of the couple holding hands and Stokes gently kissing Ballerini on the forehead. She sings: “Thought I knew all of the ropes / Thought I could ride like a pro / Never knew I’d have a round two / I fell off, babe, but I found you / Take my heart, but take it slow / ’Cause this ain’t my first rodeo.”

The visuals progress with Ballerini performing on a pile of luggage at the beach while clinging to Stokes’ arms.

The video concludes with Ballerini running along a boardwalk and setting off on a boat, eventually arriving at a hotel room where she enjoys a martini while watching a rodeo on a big screen.

Ballerini commented on the video, saying, “The visuals are intended to convey the emotion, duality, feelings, and landscape of this record. While it’s personal and reflects my own art and life, it has reached a stage where it transforms into a shared relationship, gaining new meanings for everyone.”
