“Thanks to God…my face appeared fairly normal, at least from a distance, so I could make it to the show,” Pearce remembered.

Carly Pearce is opening up for the first time about a 2020 accident that almost had serious consequences. In a new video, she revealed that she knocked out her front teeth just a week before her CMA Awards debut and shared how she still managed to attend the big night.
She captioned the video, “A little fun fact about the 2020 CMA Awards to start your Monday,” taking fans back to Halloween of that year when she was dressed as a cat for a party. Things quickly went wrong.
“Early in the evening, I was going down the stairs and fell. It was one of those falls you can’t catch yourself from, and I landed directly on my mouth,” Pearce explained. The impact was severe enough to knock her out and damage several of her teeth.
“I remember waking up to my friend FaceTiming my mom to show her what happened. The next day, I realized it was Sunday—and the CMA Awards were coming up fast,” she recalled.
The video included a photo showing Pearce with swollen, bloody lips and chipped front teeth. She spent the following day seeking urgent care, visiting both a dentist and a plastic surgeon who came in on their day off to help her.
“At the dentist, we discovered I had almost bitten through my mouth. I needed skin removed from my lip and received seven stitches. Later, a dentist applied temporary caps on my front teeth, telling me I could get root canals after the CMA Awards,” Pearce said.
Leading up to the awards, she also saw the plastic surgeon daily to help her lips and surrounding areas heal.
“He would apply compresses and scrape the area. I used Aquaphor all day, every day. Thanks to God, Aquaphor, and these amazing doctors, my face looked almost normal enough to go to the show—from a distance, at least,” she shared.
Despite the pain and swelling, Pearce performed at the CMA Awards. She described, “During the show, my friend leaned over and said, ‘Your lip is bleeding.’ My teeth were so loose that I had a lisp while singing, but I did it. I made it through, and everything turned out fine.”
