Maren Morris is marking a major milestone as she celebrates 10 years since the release of the album that launched her career.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the 36-year-old singer reflected on her breakthrough into country music with her 2016 debut album, Hero, and shared how she plans to commemorate the anniversary. Morris explained that the album reached its 10-year milestone in June, prompting her to embark on a special anniversary tour that will conclude in a few weeks with a performance at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium.
She said the final concert will be especially meaningful because of the many memorable moments she has experienced at the legendary venue over the past decade. Morris added that performing her breakthrough hit, “My Church,” at the Ryman—often referred to as the “Mother Church of Country Music”—is expected to be an emotional experience.
Since the release of Hero, Morris has continued to build a successful career with albums including Girl (2019), Humble Quest (2022), and Dreamsicle (2025). Along the way, she has collected numerous honors, including five Academy of Country Music Awards, as well as victories at the Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards, American Music Awards, and Country Music Association Awards.
Looking back on the past decade, Morris said the anniversary represents more than just the album itself. She explained that it is also a celebration of the fans and relationships that have become part of her journey, whether they have supported her from the beginning or discovered her music more recently.
To mark the occasion, Morris released Hero: A Second Wind on June 26, an expanded version of her debut album. The deluxe edition includes two newly recorded songs originally written during the Hero sessions—“Hard Liquor and Soft Rock” and “We Can’t Be Friends”—along with four previously unreleased demo recordings: “Sugar,” “Company You Keep,” “I Wish I Was,” and “Drunk Girls Don’t Cry.”
During her Hero: A Second Wind – 10th Anniversary concert at the Ryman Auditorium on Aug. 15, Morris will perform the entire Hero album live from beginning to end for the first time in her career.
