Ella Langley Makes Billboard History as “Choosin’ Texas” Surpasses Mariah Carey’s Record

Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” had previously held the record for the longest run at No. 1.

Ella Langley has reached a major milestone in her career, with “Choosin’ Texas” becoming the longest-running No. 1 hit in Billboard Hot 100 history.

The country star’s breakout song moved past Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” on Thursday, Sept. 22, after spending its 23rd week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Carey’s 1994 holiday classic previously held the record with 22 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1, according to Billboard.

Released in October 2025, “Choosin’ Texas” was written by Langley alongside Luke Dick, Joybeth Taylor and fellow country artist Miranda Lambert. The track marked Langley’s first Hot 100 chart-topper and was selected as the lead single from her album Dandelion, which arrived April 10.

The inspiration behind the hit came from an unusual experience involving Lambert. In an April interview with Rolling Stone, Langley recalled hearing about a bizarre encounter in which Lambert was pulled over while traveling with both her dog and a kangaroo.

Langley, 27, remembered being at a songwriting retreat with Lambert, 42, when she asked about the incident. She jokingly imagined the police officer immediately recognizing Lambert as being from Texas based on the unusual scene.

The success of “Choosin’ Texas” has also helped fuel a major awards season for Langley. With the CMA Awards scheduled for November, the singer has received nine nominations overall. Three of those nominations — Single of the Year, Song of the Year and Music Video of the Year — recognize “Choosin’ Texas.”

Langley is additionally in contention for Entertainer of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year for Dandelion. Her song “Be Her” received nominations for both Single of the Year and Song of the Year, while her collaboration with Morgan Wallen, “I Can’t Love You Anymore,” earned a nomination for Musical Event of the Year.

The song’s achievements extend beyond the Billboard chart. According to a press release, “Choosin’ Texas” has already collected two ACM Awards and an American Music Award. The track has also surpassed 1.6 billion streams worldwide, while its official music video has accumulated approximately 86 million views.
