Miller, 37, had initially set her sights on acting, but a simple social media shout-out from Meghan Trainor ended up steering her life in a completely different direction.
Miller opened up about the turning point during a recent appearance on The Dory Jackson Interview. The 37-year-old New York native explained that although she had always wanted to work in entertainment, becoming a professional singer was never part of her original plan.
After college, Miller began posting casual song covers on YouTube while spending her free time auditioning for acting jobs. At the time, she believed acting was the career path she was meant to follow.
With no classes to attend during the day and auditions, rehearsals or filming filling her evenings, Miller said she quickly found herself with more free time than she was used to.
“I’m someone that loves to go, go, go,” she recalled, explaining that boredom eventually led her to YouTube.
She started uploading cover songs and soon discovered that the platform gave her something she had not experienced while auditioning for acting roles: creative freedom.
As more people discovered her videos, Miller unexpectedly began developing an audience of her own. Before long, fans were asking when she planned to release original music.
Miller said the questions caught her off guard because, in her mind, she was still simply an actress from New York who was accustomed to receiving scripts rather than recording songs.
Although she was touched that listeners believed she had what it took to become a recording artist, Miller said she initially dismissed the idea.
“That’s just not what I do,” she remembered thinking.
Still, she continued posting covers despite having no intention of turning music into a career. Then, in 2018, she uploaded her version of a song by Trainor.
That cover would ultimately become the moment that changed everything for Miller, setting her on a path toward a career in country music she never expected to pursue.
