Shelton dropped his latest album, For Recreational Use Only, on Friday, May 9.

Blake Shelton is amazed by Gwen Stefani’s vocal abilities.
During a May 13 appearance on the TODAY show as part of their Summer Concert Series, the “God’s Country” singer opened up about his wife’s musical talent and the joy of seeing her recognize her own potential.
When talking about his favorite aspect of being in the studio, Shelton, 48, shared, “It’s just watching her.” He continued, “I don’t think she’s ever truly given herself the credit she deserves as a vocalist.”
He added, “To see her work through different harmony parts and realize what she’s capable of, I think in the last few years, she’s really started to grasp her vocal potential.” Shelton expressed admiration for watching Stefani create, saying, “Being in the studio with her, seeing her come up with these parts, sing them, record them, and then say, ‘Oh my god, that was incredible,’ it’s just awesome.”
Gwen Stefani, 55, released her album Bouquet in November, which includes the song “Purple Irises” featuring Blake Shelton. In a 2023 PEOPLE cover story, she explained her approach to songwriting: “I’m never going to write anything that’s not just completely reflective of what’s going on in my life.” This was her first music release since You Make It Feel Like Christmas in 2017.
She added, “Before I wrote my first song, I was this dyslexic girl who didn’t know how I fit in. Then I was like, ‘Oh, this is my magic power.’ I’m so honored that I got the gift to be able to write music, and I take it super seriously.”
Meanwhile, Shelton released his new album For Recreational Use Only on Friday, May 9. “It’s been years in the making, and I’m so excited it’s finally yours,” he shared on Instagram. Stefani is featured on the track “Hangin’ On.”
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Shelton discussed how he and Stefani keep their decade-long relationship fresh. “I feel like that might be the key to happiness, is that it feels just as exciting and new and happy,” he said in May.
The country singer also reflected on how quickly time has passed since they first got together, admitting, “It honestly does feel like time is flying by.”
