Ashley McBryde Temporarily Steps Back to Recover Her Voice
Ashley McBryde is pressing pause to give her vocals a chance to recover.
On Wednesday, Aug. 6, the 42-year-old country star posted a video to Instagram, using handwritten notes to update fans about her condition.
“Hey everyone, I messed up my throat,” she explained in the message. “That means no talking if I want to be able to keep singing for you.”
Ashley McBryde Uses ASL to Connect with Fans While on Vocal Rest
Ashley McBryde is finding creative ways to stay close to her fans while taking care of her voice.
In a video shared on Instagram Wednesday, Aug. 6, the 42-year-old singer-songwriter revealed that she’s on vocal rest due to injured vocal cords. Holding up handwritten notes, she joked that it was the perfect time for everyone to brush up on sign language.
“This would be a good time to practice some A.S.L.,” one of her notes read. “Say things like: Hi! Nice to meet you! Good to see you!” She explained that by learning a few basics, fans could help make sure meet-and-greets don’t have to be canceled. “Let’s try together,” she encouraged.
In her caption, McBryde addressed her fanbase directly: “Trybe, doc says I’m working on busted up vocal cords. The last thing I wanna do is cancel any meet greets or Heaven forbid SHOWS. So let’s try this for this week!”
Despite the setback, McBryde is keeping her tour schedule intact. She’s set to perform throughout the month before wrapping up her run with her Redemption Residency at Chief’s in Nashville on Dec. 12 — a special series of shows she announced just days earlier. “If you’ve been around since the bar days, we’ve already shared one hell of a ride,” she wrote on Instagram. “Now it’s all coming full circle with something I’ve been dreaming about for a long time.”
The Grammy-winning artist also dropped her newest single, Rattlesnake Preacher, in June, teasing it with a video message to fans: “This one is for the folks who aren’t afraid to kick down the doors standing in their way.”
While McBryde has no shortage of admirers, she admitted to having her own starstruck moment back in 2019 at the Academy of Country Music Awards. She told PEOPLE that Reba McEntire surprised her mid-interview by leaning into the microphone and saying, “Hi, Ashley McBryde, this is Reba McEntire, and I’m your biggest fan.” McBryde recalled nervously blurting out a honk-like “Hi” in response, laughing at how overwhelmed she felt in the moment.
