12:00 am: Parks, Recreation & Beautification Committee Vacancies

Details:  The City of Clovis has two vacancies on the Parks, Recreation, and Beautification Committee for representatives from District 3 and 4. The committee meets on the fourth Monday of every month at 5:30pm at City Hall. Visit cityofclovis.org for all duties and responsibilities of these vacancies. Contact the City Managers office at 769-7828 for questions or to obtain an application. Applications will be accepted until 5pm on Friday, September 27th.

12:00 am: ENMU Homecoming Parade

Location:  Eastern New Mexico University, 1500 S Avenue K, Portales, NM 88130, USA
Details:  The annual ENMU Homecoming Parade will take place on September 28th beginning at 11:15am. This year's theme is Ancient Civilizations. If you are interested in participating, email [email protected].

4:30 pm: Free Tutoring

Location:  La Casita Elementary School, 400 Davis St, Clovis, NM 88101, USA
Details:  Clovis Municipal Schools is offering free tutoring for students in 2nd -12th grade. Tutoring takes place at La Casita Elementary School from 4:30-6pm every Monday - Thursday. Professional instructors will be on site and snacks will be provided. For more information call, 769-4455.

5:00 pm: Portales Farmers Market

Location:  Corner of 1st Street and Avenue B
Details:  The Portales Farmers Market is opening weekly on Monday's beginning at 5pm. The market takes place directly behind the Chamber of Commerce at the corner of First Street & Avenue B featuring locally grown produce.

6:00 pm: Citizenship Interview Prep

Location:  La Casita Elementary School, 400 Davis St, Clovis, NM 88101, USA
Details:  Clovis Municipal Schools will be offering Citizenship Interview Prep classes for ages 16 and older every Monday night from now until April 30th. The class takes place at La Casita Elementary School from 6-8pm. Childcare will be provided for these classes. Call 769-4455 for all the details.

12:00 am: Student Success Center Homework Help

Location:  Clovis High School Student Success Center
Details:  The Clovis High School Student Success Center offers free help with schoolwork for 7th-12th grade students in the district. They will be offering free tutoring, a quiet place to work on homework, and a place to make up quizzes and tests. They will also have bilingual teachers on hand to help. Student Success Center hours are from 3:35-5:30pm Monday - Thursday in the CHS Library.

12:00 am: CHS Freshman Academy Algebra Tutoring

Location:  Clovis High School Freshman Academy, 1400 Cameo St, Clovis, NM 88101, USA
Details:  Free algebra tutoring is available for 9th grade students at the Clovis High School Freshman Academy! Tutoring will take place in room 23 with Ms. Moran from 3:45-5:45pm Monday - Thursday. Call the CHS Freshman Academy at 769-4400 for more information.

Details:  The Community Services Center in Portales is looking for foster grandparent volunteers for the Foster Grandparent Program in Roosevelt County. Volunteers must be 55 years of age or older, be income eligible, willing to volunteer 15-40 hours per week, and enjoy working with children. 8:00 am: Out of the Darkness Walk

Location:  Clovis Aquatic Center, 6310, 1700 E 7th St, Clovis, NM 88101, USA
Details:  Out of the Darkness Clovis Walk will begin at the Clovis Aquatics Center at 8am. This walk is meant to raise suicide awareness and funds for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The funds allow AFSP to invest in new research, create education programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss. 10:00 am: Fallpacapalooza

Details:  Windrush Alpacas invites everyone out to their annual Fallpacapalooza benefiting the Special Hearts Prom. There will be games, prizes, alpaca meet and greets, bake sale, photo ops, snacks, and fun activities for kids from 10am to 3pm. Windrush Alpacas is located at 770 Curry Road M. Cost is $10 per car and a portion of the proceeds will go toward Clovis' Special Hearts Prom.

ONGOING EVENTS ON THE HIGH PLAINS

Hope Children’s Home in Clovis is in need of help with their food pantry. Regular needs are fresh fruit and vegetables, sliced bread, & tortillas. Other items needed are toiletries and clothing for children of all ages.


The American Red Cross in Clovis is offering CPR Training. Cost is $45 per person and training can be set to accommodate participant’s schedules. Discounts are available for groups of 12 or more. Certificates will be valid for 2 years. For more information, call 763-4129 for more details.


The GLU Factory is in need of donations of twin bedding, all household items including cleaning supplies and laundry soap, toiletries, towels and other necessities for their residents at the home. They are also in need of men’s large and extra-large clothing (new & gently used). For more details, call 935-4458.


Hartley House in Clovis is in need of donations of pajamas, dolls and trucks for the children staying in the safe house. For more details, call 762-0050.


Arise Sexual Assault Services is in need of donations of new clothing (prefer dark & loose) for both men, women and children in all sizes. They are also in need of new items for the children – stuffed animals, dolls, coloring books, crayons, ect. Other items needed are feminine hygiene products.  For more details, call 226-7263.


The El Desayuno Kiwanis Club in Clovis is conducting their Annual Flag Fundraiser. Cost is $35 per year and flags will be placed at your home or business on 10 occasions throughout the year. For more details, contact Jim at 762-7850.


Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails is seeking role models and volunteers to assist with the program. These roles include; Troop Family and Friends, Troop Leader/Co-Leader, Service Unit Volunteers, Cookie Volunteers and Event/Program Volunteers. The Curry County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program are currently seeking volunteers to share their time, experience, talent and knowledge within the communities. The Community Services Center in Portales is currently in need of donations for the CSC Food Pantry. Donations may be dropped off at the center located at 1100 Community Way. For more details, call 356-8576 ext. 10.


The Pregnancy Resource Center offers a program called “Earn While You Learn” for their clients. The program allows new and expectant parents to participate in prenatal, newborn care and parenting classes through the center. Through this, they earn “Baby Bucks” to spend in the Baby Boutique. The center is currently in need of the following items to help stock the Baby Boutique; diapers, wipes, baby clothes, formula, baby food, bottles, blankets, toys, crib (new and used – must meet current safety standards), crib sheets, Pack & Play (new and used), car seats (must be new), Baby carriers/slings and CATS Bus passes. Matt 25 offers Anger Management classes on Thursday at 6pm weekly. This 8 week course is $150 and can be entered at anytime. Matt 25 also offers a 9 week Parenting Class for $180. This course requires sign up so please contact Matt 25 to do so.

Life Skills Classes are 24 weeks long and go deep into different life skills and how to deal with issues. The cost is based on income and has a sliding scale. You must sign up in advance for this course. For more information, check out lifeskillsclovis.com or call 935-4411.
